The Adriatic Loop is the classic first Balkans trip by campervan — Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia in two to three weeks, mostly following the coast. It’s the route we’d suggest if it’s your first time in the region.
What is the Adriatic Loop?
It links the four countries along the eastern Adriatic into one journey: alpine Slovenia, the long Croatian coastline and islands, the bay of Kotor in Montenegro, and Mostar in Bosnia inland. You get national parks, walled old towns and swimmable sea without straying far from a good road.
The route and its highlights
- Slovenia — Lake Bled, the Soča valley and Ljubljana.
- Croatia — Plitvice Lakes, the Dalmatian coast, the islands and Dubrovnik.
- Montenegro — the Bay of Kotor and the coast south.
- Bosnia & Herzegovina — Mostar and its bridge, an easy inland detour.
How long and when to go
Two to three weeks is comfortable. The main season is June to September; May and October are quieter and cheaper, and the sea is still warm in early autumn.
